Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior official commented the attack rendered him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
