Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
