British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a combined operation against an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory operated by the IS group, according to the UK's MoD.
The site, identified by reconnaissance, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was situated in hills just to the north of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"The RAF jets used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a series of access tunnels providing entry to the facility... early reports are that the strike was effective," the ministry announced.
There was no sign of any harm to civilians in the operation late on Saturday and each participating jet made a safe return, the MoD added.
The Typhoon fighters were supported by a Voyager tanker plane.
The Islamic State group - also known as the so-called Islamic State - imposed jihadist rule over parts of both Syria and Iraq before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This operation shows British leadership, and commitment to operate in unison with our allies, to eradicate any resurgence of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the region," UK Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary stated.
RAF aircraft have carried out overwatch operations over Syrian airspace to "forestall any attempted resurgence" of the group following its military defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I extend gratitude to every member of British forces who took part in this mission for their expertise and their bravery," Healey commented. "They were among a great many British troops on duty over the festive period. This mission, to remove dangerous terrorists who pose a risk to our way of life, demonstrates how UK forces are ready to step up, continuously, protecting the UK domestically and powerful internationally."
During December, the US military executed what it described as a "large-scale strike" against Islamic State objectives in Syria, after an ambush killed two US troops and a local interpreter in Palmyra.
The U.N. estimates IS still maintains an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 militants in Syria and Iraq.
